Who Was Stuart Stone? Stuart Stone was both talented and brilliant. Born in 1930, he graduated from the prestigious Yale School of Law and was a successful practicing attorney until his mid sixties. What makes this otherwise insignificant detail most remarkable is the fact that he suffered a stroke in his early forties and was paralyzed on his right side for the rest of his life. Although every day was a struggle, he continued to live a full and active life, practicing law undeterred for two more decades and went to temple regularly until the time of his death. He never complained or asked, "Why me?". Stuart Stone is an inspiring example of what can be accomplished, even when life puts huge obstacles in the way. He spent quality time with his nine grandchildren and remained a mentor to his children until he died last September. He taught by example how much could be overcome with personal strength. His family has decided to honor his memory by naming this school after him and by working with the JHC Rabbis and administration to make Hebrew learning accessible to all children. The Jewish Heritage Center is indebted to the Stone family for its generous partnership in this endeavor. We therefore take great pride in announcing that henceforth our Hebrew School shall be known as THE STUART STONE HEBREW SCHOOL OF THE JEWISH HERITAGE CENTER May we all learn from the example he set and may his memory continue to be a source of great blessing to his family and to so many others.
